Sunday 7th July saw MONTANE® athlete Marcus Scotney battle not only against the tough Lakeland Trails Marathon course but also sweltering heat of 28°C. Marcus won in a time of 2:54.21, missing the course record set last year in pouring rain by just 30 seconds and coming 19 minutes ahead of 2nd placed Gordy Smith.
Marcus took the lead right from the start (Coniston Hall this year) finding the undulating trail marathon course enjoyable despite the extraordinary challenges of the heat and a head on collision with a Kannku 4×4 whilst running 5:16min/mile downhill.
“It was a good test of my current training for the MONTANE® Lakeland 50, I felt really strong over the last few miles and I was really pleased with how my legs coped with the heat and demanding course.”
Marcus is looking forward to seeing how his training pays off at the MONTANE® Lakeland 50 in less than 3 weeks’ time on Saturday 27th July.
