Whatever your goal or level of running, I can help you achieve your dreams. I have coached from beginners planning their first race, runners improving on times or distance, up to those running at an elite level.
If you are wondering how to go about training for your next 10km, marathon or ultra marathon, or have hit a plateau in your racing or training, then I can help you.
As a coach I have over 25 years of running experience from 10km, to 100 mile races including multistage races. I have represented Great Britain and England eight times, won medals twice at the British 100km Championships and the British Trail Championships 2014.
I won my first multistage ultra marathon the 8 day 246 miles Cape Wrath Ultra in 2016 and the Dragons Back Race in 2017 one of the hardest mountain multistage race setting a new course record of 38hrs 58mins.
I have also won Leicestershire Country 1000m and 5000m championships, as well as orienteering championships.
I am a UK Athletics Run Leader, a qualified Sports Therapist, and also a member of the UKSCA with a foundation certificate in Strength and Conditioning. I have been coached by twice World 100km Champion Carolyn Hunter-Rowe.
All coaching is individually planned after an initial Skype or 1:1 meeting to develop a bespoke training programme and sessions to help keep you on track. The training program’s are designed with one thing in mind – to help you achieve your potential with training and racing goals.
I offer two coaching packages – 1:1 monthly coaching using Training Peaks to build the training programme and included weekly email review and once a month Skype or in person in the Peak District meeting.
or a 12 week one off training programme which is put together following a 2 hour Skype meeting.
“Having never been a runner I started about 5 years ago. Last year I joined a club, enjoyed it and wanted to see what I could do. I met Marcus and we talked through what I was hoping to achieve. Only six months later, with his training advice, I have managed my best ever fell race results and taken two hours off the time I did for an ultra last year. I would definitely recommend it!” – Charlie Elliott
“I started working with him in December 2014 and he has helped structure my training with a strong scientific base and it has re-booted my running. The mini targets and variation and challenges in training sessions have made it real fun. He has also really helped me with my race strategy from my mental outlook through pacing and finishing with kit and nutrition. Oh yes and he’s a sound bloke too!” Dan Shrimpton – winner and course record holder of St Oswalds Way 100mile Ultra.
Training Plan Compilation: Lifestyle, available training time, and other commitments, all have to be balanced to provide stress free training and racing. Each training plan is written following an inital consultation.
Once the training place is in place, contact is ongoing, to ensure focus remains in both the training and racing plan.
One to One Coaching Sessions: Sometimes you may just be looking for help with your own devised training plan, or you require help in a certain area. This is where one to one coaching sessions can help. Topics can include: goal setting, endurance development, increasing speed, periodisation planning, heart rate training, technique and SWOT Analysis. These one to one sessions can be arranged and booked at any time.
Trail Running and Mountain Marathon Navigation Training Sessions: As a summer Mountain Leader I can offer one to one or group navigation training sessions in the Peak District or an area of you choice.
